How to Disable Comments in WordPress

Disable Comments in WordPress

One common problem that every WordPress user might face is a number of spam comments. At some point in your blogging career, you definitely might have thought about removing all of the comments in your posts and pages. “How can I disable comments in WordPress?” This is a popular question (especially among the new WordPress users).

There are some spam-fighting tools available in the WordPress repository, but some users prefer to disable comments completely.

Therefore, for those who have been wanting to disable comments in WordPress, here is a simple tutorial that will help you do it.

 Disable Comments in WordPress

First of all, go to your WordPress Dashboard and visit Settings> Discussion.

If you don’t see the Discussion box in your control panel, click the “Screen Options” drop-down at the top right of your screen and make sure “Discussion” is checked.

In the Discussion box, uncheck the “Allow people to post comments on new articles” and the “All link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks)” settings.

Default article settings

The ‘pingbacks’ feature in WordPress is like commenting for computers. It allows other blogs to leave a comment/link on your blog to their blog if they mention you. Unfortunately, in many cases, it’s not useful and is a bit like link-spam.

Finally, at the bottom of the page, you’ll see the “Save Changes” button, click it, and you’re done. You can also enable comments on your future posts. This just disables them by default so you don’t have to perform that extra step every time you post an article.

If for some reasons you’re still getting the comments at the bottom of some posts, you will have to go to those individual posts and uncheck the settings separately.

Quick Way to Disable Comments in WordPress

If you’ve got a bunch of pages or posts that you want to disable comments on, you can do that by clicking the “Quick Edit” and uncheck “Allow Comments”. Don’t forget to click Update to save the changes.

      Hello Sachin,
Thank you for writing to us. For future posts, you can disable all comments by simply visiting Settings>Discussion and unchecking the “Allow people to post comments on new articles” option. And for already-published articles, you will have to quick edit the articles individually and uncheck the Allow Comments option.
However, if you’re still facing issues, we suggest you contact your Theme Author for further support.
