Gutenberg 4.0 RC1 has been released and is now available for testing. On 11th October, Matias Ventura, the technical lead posted a full changelog and a video on the features you can find in the upcoming Gutenberg 4.0 update.
According to the release post, the 40th update is going to contain numerous crucial enhancements. A new data structure for RichText, color overlay for Cover Image, a new font size picker, a cool Pullquote style variation and more are introduced in the new version.
There are also several interface improvements, including the ability to search categories, post locking when multiple people interact with the editor, better handling of floats, and many more.
The new Gutenberg 4.0 introduces a new RichText data structure to allow better manipulation of inline content. It will allow building sophisticated interfaces for inline content that can be portable and relevant to mobile too.
The new version also adds the ability to change overlay color in Cover Image. You can choose the overlay color from the unlimited color palette and also choose the background opacity level as well.
A new Font Size Picker has also been introduced in Gutenberg 4.0 RC1. It comes with clear labels and size comparison. So, you can now choose the font size according to the look and feel of your website. You can choose the font size from small, normal, medium, large and huge options.
That’s not all. There are several other interesting features added in Gutenberg 4.0 update. Some of which are listed below:
- Added Pullquote style variation and color palette support
- Added support for post locking when multiple authors interact with the editor
- Added support for shortcode embeds that enqueue scripts
- Improved the UI and interactions around floats
- Added a button to exit the Code Editor
- Introduceda reusable ResizableBox component
