Subhasis Chatterjee Interview

WordCamp Bharatpur 2019 took place last month and it concluded with a huge success. We saw many inspiring speakers delivering awesome presentations and talks. Subhasis Chatterjee, from India, was one of the amazing speakers at WordCamp Bharatpur 2019. His talk was about Content Marketing and how important it is in the WordPress industry. It really helped bloggers and influencers in content marketing topics. Thank you, Mr. Chatterjee, for delivering such a stirring talk at the WordCamp and helping us all learn and grow.

Here’s an exclusive interview with Subhasis Chatterjee at WordCamp Bharatpur 2019.

Please introduce yourself and tell us how you initiated your WordPress journey.

I’m a Web Journalist, a Content Architect and a Content Analyst from Kolkata, India with an experience legacy of more than 24 years. I am the Founder and CEO at an IT service providing company, ConnectIndia, since 2004. I’m a published author, a passionate Blogger, a minute Traveler, and a Keynote Speaker. My core competency lies in the areas of Personal Branding, Digital Marketing, Social Media Propagation, Reputation Management, and Entrepreneurship Skill Development. Apart from different IT services, ConnectIndia is also engaged in offering a host of Tech and Non-Tech workshops and training programs across India and abroad as well.

My WordPress journey started a couple of years back when I started my 2 blogs; one on Travel and another on Lifestyle.

How do you keep yourself updated with the latest news and trends in WordPress and the web overall?

I’m connected to a few WordPress communities in India, Bangladesh, and Nepal. Also constantly in touch with a few more individuals from different parts in Europe and America. It actually helps me to keep abreast of the latest trends and happenings in WordPress and overall digital media.

How was the WordCamp Bharatpur experience for you?

Speaking at WordCamp Bharatpur was an absolute honor for me. A small city (fourth-largest city in Nepal) in Southern Central Nepal with a population of 280,502 that organized such a brilliant event at a grand hotel like Panaroma Garden. And no appreciation is sufficient to depict the picture of their passion and professionalism. Fifty odds volunteers were always on their toes to help you out with a smiling face even when you don’t expect or require anything of that sort. It comes from a sheer passion and dedication to pull out something notable. A big hug to Regan Khadgi, Sulav Adhikari, Bikash Pun, Yam Chettri, Utsav Singh Rathour, and the entire #WCBHR2019 team.

What are the takeaways from your talk?

The content itself is no more the king. It is the Content Marketing which is prime to make your content visible and penetrating. Content is the core. Content is required for growth. But Content distribution is the key. In my session, I had shown, how this era of Content marketing can engage, attract and convert your business in style.

How do you think content marketing affects businesses in WordPress?

Few things to keep in mind…

  1. Most buyers make decisions from Social Media.
  2. The exponential growth of people in Social Media.
  3. Images are enticing and profound for sharing.
  4. More purchases from followers.
  5. If not strategically done, Content Marketing may not generate Leads.
  6. YouTube engages more and more Young Adults than Cable Networks.

Any 3 to 5 strategies you would like to share to master the art of content marketing?

  1. Create Problem-Solution Content
  2. Anticipate Emerging Trends
  3. Optimize the Marketing Message in a subtle way
  4. Embrace the Era of Multi-Media Usage
  5.  Personify the Marketing Appeal

In your opinion, what does the future of WordPress look like?

For the self-hosted version (.org), the future looks good. Anytime, any change takes place, it comes with a new problem. WordPress will always have issues. But, they are problems I enjoy working on and solving compared to any other framework. What I like about WordPress as a development tool is its infinitely configurable stature for supporting my purposes. That’s the joy of working in WordPress. So, for anyone living online, WP is a solid tool for publishing and managing content. I’d look for WordPress to break new ground in the coming 2-3 years as it’s really making an effort to accommodate the common web implementer. And thank goodness! Look for WordPress to become more of a publishing commodity rather than a tool built by web developers for web development.

Which platforms do you think are in competition with WordPress and what could be the possible threats from competitors?

To my mind, the following are 10 Best Alternatives who are constantly in competition with WordPress. Here is a list of website builders I think to be particularly useful WordPress alternatives:

  • Wix (most flexible designs)
  • Weebly (extremely easy)
  • Jimdo (AI-powered sites)
  • Squarespace (the pricey option)
  • Joomla! (Complex but powerful)
  • Webnode (multilingual websites)
  • Site123 (great free sites)
  • Webflow (for designers)
  • com (easy to get started)
  • Shopify (#1 rated ecommerce)
  • BigCommerce (great for SEO)

As you can see, there aren’t many reasons why you would choose any other CMS over WordPress. The only option worth exploring is Drupal, because of the level of customization and the performance, but for that, you will need to be skilled when it comes to coding. Also, there are some niche solutions and those aimed solely at bloggers that might work, but it’s still nothing that WordPress cannot do.  If you are a user who is not a developer, and you don’t want to bother with coding, then WordPress will provide you everything you will ever need.

What do you think WordPress developers should do in order to remain at the top?

To stay at the top, a WordPress developer can try and follow these 10 steps:

  1. Start reading
  2. Socialize with the right people
  3. Develop your skill
  4. Practice new skill sets continuously
  5. Take a step of faith
  6. Solve a problem
  7. Contribute a Patch
  8. Perfect Debugging
  9. Write Tutorials
  10. Answer Questions

Apart from WordPress, what else do you enjoy doing?

Study and Continuous research to stay updated, Blogging, Traveling, Speaking in different conclaves, watching mainstream Sports and listening to music.

DevotePress would like to thank Mr. Subhasis Chatterjee for taking out his time for this interview. We wish him all the very best for his future endeavors.
