Force WordPress to Check Plugin Updates using the Built-in WordPress Updates

If you want WordPress to only check if a plugin update is available, then using the built-in WordPress updates is the easiest way to do so.

You just have to head over to your Dashboard > Updates page and then click on the Check Again button.

After hitting the check again, WordPress will now reload the page and check all your WordPress plugins, themes, and core WordPress software for updates. And if there is an update available, then it will automatically show you on the page as a notification on the admin bar.

Force WordPress to Check for Plugin Updates Using a Plugin

The method is for those who owns multiple WordPress websites. If you fall into this category, then, you might know the struggle to keep your plugins up-to-date. You will notice that there are updates available every time you log into one of your websites. Also, you might notice that some plugins are more frequently updated than others.

You can set some of the plugins to be automatically updated whenever there is a new version available.

First of all, install and activate the Easy Updates Manager plugin. Upon activation, visit Dashboard > Updates Options page to configure the plugin. This will bring up a popup where you will be asked, “What you would like to do?” Now, you need to click on the “Configure Manually” button to continue.

You need to click on the General tab under the Manage Updates page and scroll down to ‘Automatic plugins updates’ option.

Now, click “Select individually” option and then click Save Changes button to set your settings. Next, you need to switch to plugins tab and click on ‘Enable Automatic Updates’ below the plugins that you trust and want to be automatically updated.

You need to switch to Advanced tab under Updates Options to force automatic updates and click on the Force Updates button.
