Jetpack Updates: Jetpack 6.3.3 Released!

Jetpack 6.3.3 Released

The newest version of Jetpack, Jetpack 6.3.3 has been released and now is available for download. The major update in this release is the change brought in Facebook shares via Publicize. The chance will limit your ability to share content to a Facebook profile.

Publicize is the feature brought by the Jetpack team that connects your website to major social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and more. And regarding a change to Facebook’s API brought on August 1, 2018, which included that third-party tools can no longer share posts automatically to Facebook Profiles, the Jetpack 6.3.3 update included changes to the Publicize feature. Also, it has included a notice that will help you in the further process.

The Jetpack team has removed the ability to select Facebook Profile connections in the Publicize UI. It means, Publicize will no longer be able to share your posts to Facebook Profiles. However, the change will not affect if you have your Facebook Page connected to your website.

If you want to share your posts on Facebook, you can either go for the manual process—publish a post, copy its URL and share it as a new Facebook post, or, the other option (which might not be useful for everyone) where you have to convert your Facebook profile to a page. The second option works only if your website focuses on a business organization. You can know more about this here.

Moreover, a notice will be shown to you regarding your existing connections to a Facebook Profile. This allows you to quickly understand what has changed and which connections will you be losing as a result of the update to Jetpack 6.3.3. Publicize also allows you to add new connections to Facebook Pages in the place of Profile connections if you prefer.
