WordPress 5.3 Beta 3 Now Available for Testing!

WordPress 5.3 Beta 3 Now Available

The third Beta has been released for the upcoming major release, WordPress 5.3. The WordPress 5.3 Beta 3 includes over 60 fixes and enhancements.  The enhancements were made after the Beta 1 and Beta 2 release in order to smoothen your WordPress experience.

Since the software is still in development mode, it’s best that you don’t run it on a production site. Consider setting up a test site just to play with the new version. To test WordPress 5.3, try the WordPress Beta Tester plugin (you’ll want “bleeding edge nightlies”). Or you can download the beta here (zip).

Let’s now have a quick look at the highlights in WordPress 5.3 Beta 3.

Highlights in WordPress 5.3 Beta 3

  • Improvements to the permissions check used while editing comments
  • Fix for post type controller caching edge cases
  • Ability to use the_embed parameter to access the full data for a post using the /wp/v2/search endpoint
  • Fixes and enhancements in the admin interface changes introduced in previous 5.3 beta releases
  • Wording changes in login screen (#43037)
  • Improved accessibility in media upload modal (#47149)
  • Changes in the way the new error handling with images works (#48200)
  • MediaElement.js has been updated from 4.2.6 to 4.2.13 (#46681). The script is now also being loaded in the footer again. This fixes a regression that happened two years ago, so might be worth noting (#44484).
  • Update to the REST API media endpoint to allow the resuming of uploads (#47987).

The Beta 3 version also has a handful of changes for the developers to play around with. Check out the developer notes on the WordPress Core.

WordPress 5.3 release schedule date is on 12th November 2019. And to make the major release smooth and bug-free, the developers need your help. Therefore, we suggest you start testing right away!

If you think you’ve found a bug, you can post to the Alpha/Beta area in the support forums. Moreover, if you’re comfortable writing a reproducible bug report, file one on WordPress Trac, where you can also find a list of known bugs.
