The fourth Release Candidate for the next major release, WordPress 5.9 is here. WordPress 5.9 Release Candidate 4 is now available for the general public to test. The RC4 includes fixes for some late-discovered issues.
A release candidate (RC) means that the core development team is almost ready with 5.9. But, with millions of users and thousands of plugins and themes, they’re fully conscious of the possibility that something might have been missed.
WordPress 5.9 will shortly be released today and just a day before the main release, the team has fixed seven issues after RC3 and released the final RC.
To test WordPress 5.9, you can use the WordPress Beta Tester plugin (choose the “bleeding edge nightlies” channel and “Beta/RC Only” stream) or you can also download WordPress 5.9 release candidate 4 here (zip).
You can also use WP- CLI to test WordPress 5.9 using the following commands:
Command One:
wp core update --version=5.9-RC4
Command Two:
wp core update --version=5.9-RC4 --force
WordPress 5.9 RC4 includes the following fixes:
- Classic menus are not selectable in the existing Navigation block – PR38168
- Remove Customizer’s Menus section when the block theme is active – #54888
- Block Editor: Mark last change as persistent on save – PR36887
- Issue in clicking “Edit styles” link in the Welcome panel – #54859 / PR38123
- Fix resizable box scrollbars in blocks – PR38123
- Fix for the pattern preview expanding issue – PR38175
- Allow to install/activate themes/plugin which requires the next WordPress version – #54882
