Gutenberg 3.6 – the newest version of Gutenberg has been released with new features and improvements. The new update was released on August 17, 2018, with more than 60 enhancements included in it.

The new update has introduced a few improvements to the user experience as usual. The enhancements in Gutenberg 3.6 includes the introduction of new icons for all core blocks, more visual breathing room, better handling of searched with diacritics, and more.

The new icons in Gutenberg 3.6 aim at encouraging people to create their own blocks to supply their own SVG. This is to avoid the multiple cases of duplicated icons diminishing the overall ability to quickly scan the blocks.

As the users started extending Gutenberg, the block icon duplication became a problem due to the limited number of Dashicons available. The blocks now use material icons that ensure there are unique icons for each block. The update has improved the icons for the core embeds displaying the corresponding icon for each embed service.

The new version has also added several new keyboard shortcuts, such as inserting a new block before/after the current block, toggling the inspector settings, removing a block, and showing said help menu.

Pressing ctrl+option+h (shift+alt+h on windows/linux) will display a new modal providing details on keyboard shortcuts.
