WordCamp Kathmandu 2022 concluded with huge success earlier this month on 4th September at Alice Reception, Garidhara, Kathmandu. We saw many inspiring speakers delivering amazing presentations and talks. Ashish Rai was one of the speakers at WordCamp Kathmandu 2022. The talk was about Vertical Rhythm; Efficiency in WordPress Theme Layout. Thank you, Ashish, for delivering such an exciting talk at the WordCamp and helping us all learn and grow.
Ashish Rai is a Creative Designer currently working at Catch Themes with strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. A self-managed and result-oriented Web/Graphic/UI designer with many years of experience in Branding, Web Designing, and related Visual Communication. His major ability is to create visually rich designs; work and motivate teams; drive projects to successful completion. In his spare time, you will probably find him creating new music or getting along with nature.
With that being said, here is the full interview with Ashish Rai, one of the amazing speakers of WordCamp Kathmandu 2022.
1. Tell us something about yourself.
Hi, my name is Ashish Rai. I am a creative designer and I have been working as a Senior Designer at Catch Themes for the last five years.
2. How and when did you start your journey in WordPress?
I have been a graphic/web designer for quite a long time by now but since 2017 I have been designing more of a WordPress theme than others. I have designed couple of themes before as well but after 2017 I got more into WordPress while working with Catch Themes team.
3. Are there any challenges that you face during your initial phase in WordPress? And what was it about?
I knew what WordPress was as we all know it’s a very popular CMS (Content Management System) but since I started designing more WordPress themes, I figured out that there were few challenges as we were not designing for one specific brand or one specific target audiences.
4. What advice would you like to share with the new WordPress users who are joining the WordPress community?
The WordPress community is great for newbies. If you have any problem, just feel free to ask questions. Don’t be scared to reach out. You can find many helpful and supportive people. And it is equally important to give back to the community so share your ideas and contribute to the community in whatever way you can.
5. Were you excited about your talk at WordCamp Kathmandu? What was your talk about?
Yes, I was excited as it was my first time as a Speaker. My talk was very basic regarding line-height in a design layout. Most of the designers tend to neglect when it is comes to line-height so my talk was about how if we include these small things in our layout the whole design experience can get much better. I am grateful to the WordPress community for the opportunity to share my experiences in the platform.
6. What do you hope attendees will take away from your talk?
I hope the attendees were able to know about the importance of line-height in a design layout.
7. What do you think about the WordPress community in Nepal?
I think the WordPress community in Nepal is one of the active communities throughout the globe. We can see a lot of collaboration as many people are coming forward to meet, contribute, and grow the community. It’s growing in both numbers and its contribution. We can say that we are moving ahead.
8. What do you think about female participation in WordPress?
Female participation in the WordPress community is growing. Even in this WordCamp Kathmandu, we can see the number of female attendees. It would be great to see more of them as speakers next year sharing their stories.
9. How do you stay updated with WordPress?
I follow WordPress.org. Also, I have subscribed to different WordPress-related websites. And I go through the blogs and posts related to WordPress on daily basis to be familiar with the latest news on WordPress.
10. Besides WordPressing what do you do for fun?
Besides WordPressing, I love traveling to new places, and watching movies and other inspiring videos on YouTube. Also, I spend time exploring Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin.
DevotePress would, once again, like to thank Ashish rai, one of the amazing speakers of WordCamp Kathmandu 2022 for taking out his time for this interview. We wish him all the very best for his future endeavors.
