An Interview With Devin Maeztri - WCKTM2022 Speakers

WordCamp Kathmandu 2022 concluded with huge success earlier this month on 4th September at Alice Reception, Garidhara, Kathmandu. We saw many inspiring speakers delivering amazing presentations and talks. Devin Maeztri, from Indonesia, was one of the panelists at WordCamp Kathmandu 2022. The panel discussion was about the Importance of Community and Contribution. Thank you, Devin, for delivering such an exciting talk at the WordCamp and helping us all learn and grow.

Devin Maeztri is a highly motivated and experienced professional with expertise in interdisciplinary projects. She is a cat lover and uses WordPress to promote the welfare of street cats in Jakarta, called Catrescue.id. Devin is a sponsored contributor to the WordPress.org Community Team. She is also a WordPress Meetup Organizer, a General Translation Editor for Indonesian, and the Lead of the WordCamp Asia 2023 Attendees Experiences (AX) Team.

With that being said, here is the full interview with Devin Maeztri, one of the amazing speakers of WordCamp Kathmandu 2022.

1. Could you please give us your short introduction and your role in WordPress?

My name is Devin Maeztri. I am based in Jakarta, Indonesia. I am a sponsored contributor and my role is a WordPress Community Deputy.

2. What do you love most about the WordCamps and bringing the WordPress community together?

WordCamps open so many opportunities for so many people. WordCamp Denpasar 2016 was my first exposure to the WordPress community. Since then, I have become more involved and also found what I can do best to support the WordPress community I also love helping people find what they love doing. WordPress events aim at bringing people together so they can create opportunities for themselves and other people to do what they love!

3. You were one of the panelists for WordCamp Kathmandu 2022 how does that feel?

I am extremely grateful for the opportunity! I have been volunteering, organizing, emceeing and attending WordCamps, but I had never been a WordCamp speaker. So, thank you WordCamp Kathmandu 2022, I now have a WordCamp Speaker badge.

4. What do you think about the team and their effort in WCKTM 2022?

I heard from many people that the WordPress community in Nepal is one of the most active WordPress communities in Asia. I now can confirm that statement. The commitment and enthusiasm of all organizers and participants were strongly felt.

5. What types of talks do you think are more influential in WordCamps?

I think all talks are equally influential. WordPress has become the most popular CMS in the world and powers 43% of all the websites because of so many contributors coming from all over the world with their diverse backgrounds. So, every talk matters to many WordCamp attendees. WordCamps can come in different formats too. We welcome new ideas in organizing WordCamps. WordCamp Organizers can plan for a WordCamp that offers practical skills (such as do_action or Contributor Day) or focuses on one topic only (such as design, marketing, blogging, SEO, development, e-commerce, etc.)

6. Would you like to send any messages to the WordPress communities who are thinking about organizing a WordCamp in the upcoming days?

Yes! WordCamp is a local community event. Please make sure, you have the support from your own local community. Don’t forget to plan ahead of time. Last but not least, have fun and enjoy the process!

7. What type of tips and suggestions do you want to give to those who want to enter WordPress?

Do something you love with WordPress. We have a tremendous amount of resources available for free for you to learn about WordPress as software, and about WordPress as an open-source community.

8. How do you stay updated in WordPress?

Create your WordPress.org profile, explore the WordPress.org site, and join one of the WordPress.org projects that you are interested in or you like!

9. Besides WordPress, what do you do for fun?

I help street cats in Jakarta by neutering them, and also when needed finding them a loving home. Check out my initiative Catrescue.id.

10. And lastly, would you like to share anything about yourself with our audience?

I am a non-coder contributor. It proves that WordPress is open to anyone who has a passion for WordPress no matter their background is, and that non-coding contribution is equally valuable as coding contribution in the WordPress sphere!

DevotePress would, once again, like to thank Devin Maeztri, one of the speakers of WordCamp Kathmandu 2022 for taking out her time for this interview. We wish her all the very best for her future endeavors.
