One-click Demo Import is a great way of getting started with your site as soon as you’re online. Importing demo content to your site only means you cut out all the tedious tasks to set your website live swiftly. You don’t necessarily have to start from scratch. The content placements and sections are managed neatly when you import a demo directly to your site. Today, we will be showing you how easy it is to import theme demos with the Catch Themes Demo Import plugin. It takes only a few minutes. Simple and quick!
In this tutorial, we will guide you through two different ways – One Click Demo Import and Manual Demo Import. The one-click demo import way is for those themes that have all the predefined files to import the demo data in just a click. And for those who do not have the predefined files, you will have to manually upload the files and import the demo, which might take a little longer but is easy as well.
Please be sure that your theme has all the predefined import files – a demo content XML file for content import, a WIE/JSON file for widget import, and a DAT file for customizer import. And if you don’t find these files, you can ask for the files in your Theme Provider’s Support Forum.
Import Theme Demos with Catch Themes Demo Import Plugin
For this tutorial, we will be using a free WP plugin – Catch Themes Demo Import. It is a simple yet extremely handy plugin to import theme demos in just a few clicks. All you have to do is activate the plugin. You can do both one-click automatic import or manual import with Catch Themes Demo Import Plugin.
Please note: In order to import the complete demo content to your website including sections like Portfolio, Testimonials, Featured Content, and Services, you will have to activate our Essential Content Types (ECT) plugin. If you don’t have the plugin installed, you will be notified about it right after you activate the Catch Themes Demo Import Plugin. You can either directly download the ECT free version from the notification or you can buy the premium version. You can also skip this part as well.
One-Click Demo Import
If your theme comes with predefined demo files, you can simply head towards the Catch Themes Demo Import Dashboard and click on the demo you wish you apply to your site. I am using Photo Journal Theme and it comes with three different demos: Free, Pro, and Light.
Click on the Import button of the demo you wish you import.
A popup will appear asking if you want to import the demo content. Click on “Yes, import!”
Now, wait for a couple of minutes to get all the demo content imported to your site. You will be notified as soon as your demo is imported and applied to your site.
That’s all there is to it. You can now visit your site to see the demo content placement.
Manual Demo Import
The manual demo import process is for those who do not have the predefined files to import the demo data automatically. First, you need to ask your theme author for the demo content files in their Support Forums. They will provide you with three different files – a demo content XML file for content import, a WIE/JSON file for widget import, and a DAT file for customizer import.
After you have all three files, head over to the Catch Themes Demo Import dashboard and upload the files accordingly.
It will take a couple of minutes to import the demo content. Here’s a quick demonstration of the manual process:
After the upload is finished, your site will now have the exact content placement as the demo you imported.
So, that’s it. These were the two ways you can import theme demos in WordPress with Catch Themes Demo Import plugin.
