Meet WordCamp Kathmandu 2023 Wapuu!
WordCamp Kathmandu 2023 team has introduced amazing Wapuu mascot.
What is a Wapuu?
Well, you may be familiar with Wapuus if you have attended the WordCamp events before. The original Wapuu was designed as a mascot to promote WordPress in Japan. Kazuko Kaneuchi, a Japanese illustrator, created the first design as a gift to the WordPress community. “Wapuu” debuted at WordCamp Fukuoka in February 2011.
The Fusion of Jhilkey and Wappu
The fusion of these two words, Jhilkey and Wapuu, in the context of WordCamp Kathmandu 2023, creates a mascot that embodies the lively and joyful spirit of the WordPress Community, celebrating the rich culture and heritage of Nepal.
So, for this year the team has introduced “Jhilkey” as the main mascot.
SAY HELLO TO THE OFFICIAL WAPUU…JHILKEY!!!
In local Kathmandu terms, ‘Jhilkey’ translates to amusing, humorous, fashionable, and stylish. It embodies a sense of lightheartedness and delightfulness. Jhilkey sums up the essence of fun and playfulness, traits that often find a place in the hearts of WordCamp attendees.
“Jhilkey” for WordCamp Kathmandu 2023 is a delightful character that reflects the fusion of these concepts. It is fully dressed in traditional Nepalese attire, featuring a Dhaka Topi (a traditional Nepalese hat), Daura Suruwal, (a traditional male outfit), and Istacoat, completing the authentic look. The character also sports long wavy hair, giving it a unique, fun, and charming appeal.
Therefore, this blend of traditional attire and modern adaptability perfectly symbolizes the harmony between WordPress, a platform for modern web development, and the rich cultural heritage of Nepal. It is a visual representation of how technology can seamlessly integrate with tradition and culture, creating something new and exciting.
