WCPKR 2018 Stars: An Interview with Takayuki Miyauchi

Takayuki Miyauchi is a WordPress enthusiast from Japan. He is a web developer and has been a member of the WordPress community since around a long time. He is a WordPress core contributor, a WP-CLI commitor, WordPress plugin developer, and a VCCW maintainer. At WordCamp Pokhara 2018, he talked about –‘We Love Automation: An Introduction to WP-CLI’. We got to talk with him right the same day.

How and when did you start your journey with WordPress?

I started my WordPress journey back in 2007.

What excites you the most about WordCamps?

The most exciting and interesting part about the WordCamps are the people. It is amazing to see people dedicated to WordPress; sharing their knowledge and enjoying the moment.

What do you hope attendees will take away from your talk today?

The topic of my session was – ‘We Love Automation: An Introduction to WP-CLI’. As WP-CLI are only majored in other nations but is not so much familiar here in Nepal. I hope that attendees will understand that WP-CLI is not that difficult to work.

Are there any challenges you faced that you’d like to share with us?

Well, one of the biggest challenges for me to date, I think, is speaking in front of a huge mass.

What are your thoughts on the WordPress community of Nepal?

It’s amazing! The WordPress community of Nepal is very big. I am very much surprised how many people attended WordCamp Pokhara. The organizers are also really passionate and kind.

How have you been contributing or giving back to the community?

I have been contributing to the WordPress community by helping out my clients. I fix the programs for WordPress cores.

What do you think about female participation in WordPress?

The number of female participation is rising in the WordPress. We need to encourage women in many ways; from contributing to speaking, volunteering to organizing.

How do you stay updated on WordPress?

My go-to source for WordPress is WP tavern.

Gutenberg editor is a hot topic nowadays in WordPress, how do you think it is going to affect the WordPress ecosystem?

Last night, me and Sakin had a little conversation regarding the new Gutenberg Editor update. He was very excited about the new update as it will be helping many beginners to experience and improve their skills. He told me that this very new update will provide us with lots of business chances, which I agree. But, to be honest, I think the Gutenberg Editor will be very hard to work with for people who use a Classic editor, like me.

What can we find you doing when you’re not WordPressing?

In my leisure time, I prefer traveling to places with my family.

And lastly, WordPress 5.0 is releasing soon with Gutenberg Editor as the default editor. How excited are you about it?

To be honest, I’m not that excited about the Gutenberg Editor. With the release of WordPress 5.0 with Gutenberg Editor, many programs will be really hard to handle. Gutenberg doesn’t use the traditional post-editor. It is supposed to be easier but I think it should to optional for people to use it.
