WordPress 4.4 "Clifford"

WordPress 4.4 was released on December 8, 2015. It is termed as “Clifford” in honor of jazz trumpeter Clifford Brown.

Below you can find general features of the new WordPress release.

1. Twenty Sixteen – New Default Theme:

WordPress has been coming with new default theme every year since 2010. For WordPress 4.4 “Clifford” TwentySixteen will be the new default theme. The theme is available through both the WordPress themes directory and GitHub repo.

As always, it’s built to look great on any device. It is based on a fluid grid design, flexible header, fun color schemes (default, dark, grey, red and yellow), and many more features, which will make your content stand out.

The theme mostly focuses on readability and elegant display on devices.

2. Responsive Images Out of The Box:

WordPress now supports responsive images out of the box regardless of your theme. Before, you had to depend on the theme for responsive image support. However, now WordPress itself ensure a perfect fit for your images. It’s automatic!

3. WordPress Embeds:

WordPress 4.4 will now support all sites that support the oEmbed standard. No need to depend on the small list of websites that WordPress used to support. WordPress has also become an oEmbed provider, which means you can share your blogs on other networks easily.

It was possible via plugin, but now, it’s available through the core itself.
