WordPress 4.8.1 Maintenance Release is Now Available

WordPress 4.8.1

WordPress 4.8.1, which is a maintenance release, is now available for download. Since its release on June 8, WordPress 4.8 has been downloaded 13 million times already.

WordPress 4.8.1 contains a total of 29 maintenance fixes and enhancements. Among them, the most important ones are fixes to the rich Text widget and the introduction of the Custom HTML widget.

  • media-views.js: Cannot read .length of undefined (this.controller.$uploaderToggler.length)

REST API

  • Add filter to allow modifying response *after* embedded data is added
  • REST API: PUT requests fail on Nginx servers when fancy permalinks aren’t enabled

Taxonomy

TinyMCE

  • TinyMCE: Images with link and caption look “broken” when selected

You can either download WordPress 4.8.1 from here or visit your website’s Dashboard → Updates and simply click “Update Now.

Websites that support automatic background updates should already begin to update to WordPress 4.8.1.
