Local WordCamps Held in Nepal – 2018

One of the many fascinating benefits WordPress platform provides is the amazingly engaging WordCamp events. If you’re a WordPress lover, you definitely love attending WordCamps. After all, WordCamps are held for all WordPress lovers to learn more about WordPress, the communities, share experiences and network with each other. WordCamps take place around the world nearly every weekend. And nowadays, WordCamps are not even a country’s affair, even local communities from a certain country can organize a local WordCamp. WordCamp Central encourages smaller WordPress communities to organize WordCamps in their own cities and further extend the reach of WordPress.

Similarly, in the context of Nepal, the year 2018 has been a blessed year when it comes to local WordCamps. There were a total of 3 different local WordCamps held in Nepal in 2018—WordCamp Kathmandu 2018, WordCamp Pokhara 2018, and WordCamp Biratnagar 2018. In this article, we’re going to take you back to those wonderful event memories and also feature interviews with the lead organizers of those three local WordCamps held in Nepal.

Prior to 2018, there were only WordCamp Kathmandus organized by the WordPress Kathmandu community. However, there were many local WordPress communities like WordPress Pokhara, WordPress Biratnagar, WordPress Bharatpur, WordPress Birgunj, and more. All of these communities are very active in organizing local monthly WordPress meetups. And in the year 2018, WordPress Pokhara and WordPress Biratnagar communities also geared up and organized their first ever WordCamp event in their respective cities. We feel very joyful that these communities also initiated their WordCamp journey.

Local WordCamps Held in Nepal – 2018


WordCamp Kathmandu 2018

WordCamp Kathmandu 2018 took place on 17th and 18th March 2018 at Karki Banquet, Babarmahal in Kathmandu. It was a two-day event, the first was the official WordCamp day and the second was the Contributor day. These two days were filled with inspiring talks, interesting presentations, fun activities, and a huge crowd of WordPress lovers.

Day 1

The first day of WCKTM2018 was started with a huge inflow of attendees in Karki Banquet. There were two halls ready for the talks and presentations—Hall Action and Hall Filter. The registration desk, sponsors’ desks, swag store, and happiness bar were all set outside the two halls. The overall quality of the presentations was excellent. As mentioned earlier, there were two halls and they featured 15 different speaker sessions including one Q&A session. A group photo session took place after the lunch break. The first day of WordCamp Kathmandu 2018 ended with closing remarks followed by distribution of Token of Appreciation to all the organizers, volunteers, and supporters for their time and effort. Baje ko Sekuwa, Battisputali was served as the venue for the after-party. It provided everyone a chance to hang out with fellow attendees, explore new ideas, and network after the WordCamp.

Day 2

The second day, the Contributor day was equally fun and a lot of learning. This was the first Contributor day happening in the country. There were around 115 attendees at the event. There were 5 teams divided for the Contributor day: Theme Review, Support, Documentation, Polyglots, and Community. All the teams were led by specific WordPressers; Theme Review team by Pratik Shrestha and Nilambar Sharma, Support team by Suwash Kunwar and Abhishek Rijal, Documentation Team by Prithu Singh Thakuri and Sandhilya Kafle, Polyglots Team by Shiva Shanker Bhatta and Sudeep Balchhaudi and Community team by Mayo Moriyama. All the attendees were seen very much involved in their respective teams and were contributing from their side.

WordCamp Pokhara 2018

WordCamp Pokhara 2018

The very first WordCamp in the beautiful city of lakes, Pokhara—WordCamp Pokhara 2018 took place on November 24, 2018. The event was held at Hotel Pokhara Grande, located near the airport. It was a one-day event and featured two halls for the talks and presentations—Hall Manaslu and Hall Annapurna. Following the registration, opening remarks were given by Pratima Sharma. After the opening ceremony, the official event started featuring many interesting presentations. Oane of the highlights of the event was the Fun Photo Station photo booth. The Fun Photo team added extra excitement and fun to the WordCamp with some amazing props and photo frames. There were a total of sixteen different speaking sessions. All of which were excellent and inspiring. The closing ceremony was followed by the distribution of “Token of Appreciation” session. Besides all these, WordCamp Pokhara 2018 also featured a group photo session.

Bajeko Sekuwa, Naagdhunga served as the venue for the after-party. It provided a chance for everyone to network with one another, explore new ideas, build camaraderie, and just have fun after a long day at WordCamp.

All in all, WordCamp Pokhara 2018 was a huge success and was definitely too good to be called the first WordCamp in the city.

WordCamp Biratnagar 2018

WordCamp Biratnagar 2018

Following WordCamp Kathmandu and Pokhara, WordCamp Biratnagar 2018 was held on 22nd December 2018 at Hotel Asiatique, Airport Rd in Biratnagar. Despite the fact that WordCamp Biratnagar 2018 is happening for the first time, the team introduced a bunch of new concepts at the event like WordPress Museum, Job Fair, Website Giveaway, and more. The one-day WordPress conference was filled with amazing talks and presentations with unlimited fun and excitement. Many familiar and new faces were seen during WordCamp Biratnagar 2018. There were two halls for the presentations—Hall Danfe and Hall Laligurans. Both of the halls featured 15 talking sessions including a panel discussion. It was a long day full of things surrounding WordPress.

The after-party was held at Purple Haze, Airport Rd in Biratnagar. The after party gave everyone an excellent chance to network with one another after the WordCamp. So, all in all, WordCamp Biratnagar was a great success with hundreds of influential WordPress personas.

And organizing local WordCamps in smaller cities surely helps in reaching more people and grow the audience in the amazing WordPress platform.
